Then and again you’ll see a familiar actor or actress in a movie, although how much you look for them in the cast credits, you still can’t find them.

This headache is due because a decision was made from someone, of whatever reason, to not include their names.

Here are 10 of these actors who just appeared in a movie without warning.

They may be bitter of not being included in the cast, scared or confused. Or some PR-team or a contract that limits the exposure. There are many reasons for an actor not to be included in the cast credits, even though they’re in it.

1. Kenneth Branagh in ”Swing Kids”

The Irish Oscar winner played an SS-officer in the WW2-drama.

He decided to not include his name, to not steal the attention from co-stars Christian Bale and Robert Sean Leonard.

2. Don Cheadle in ”Ocean’s Eleven”

The academy actor was a hot name after his performance in Steven Soderbergh’s ”Traffic”.

His team thought it would have been good to be seen in the same directors’ new heist movie, but the production company thought differently. So he then told them to remove his name.

3. Matt Damon in ”Interstellar”

Christopher Nolan’s sci-fi was already a big sale but still managed to keep Damon’s name a secret to surprise the audience.

Nolan compared Damon’s role as an astronaut by Kurtz in Joseph Conrads ”Heart of Darkness” – a character you hear about, but not sure you’ll ever meet.

4. Whoopi Goldberg in ”Star Trek: Generations” and ”Nemesis”

The comedian grew up with the science fiction shows Afro-American actress Nichelle Nicols as a role model.

She was happy to play the bartender Guinan in ”The Next Generation”-show and returned for two movies. But when she expected to play against Nicols, she quickly got disappointed – and someone has said that it might have been the reason for her to get rid of her name.

5. Jon Hamm in “Bridesmaids”

He has won both the Emmy and the Golden Globe for his role in “Mad Men”. When he played Kristen Wiig’s lover in the popular comedy, he chose not to include his name in the credits, because his audience is used to seeing him in serious roles. There might have been a risk for the audience to mistake the movie for a serious one.

6. Rob Lowe in ”Tommy Boy”

The 80’s hunk played the stepbrother to this movies main character as a favor to his friend Chris Farley.

He was famous for being Fonzie in the cult-show ”Happy Days” and that was also the reason for him showing up unannounced as the principle in Wes Craven’s horror success.

The producers thought that an older Fonzie would scare the younger audience away. So they let his role be more fun, popular culture surprise.
